The Meakins-Christie Laboratories opened in 1972 under the leadership of Dr. Peter Macklem. The Meakins is now proud to celebrate 50 years of achievements. The Meakins-Christie Laboraties are named for two distinguished physicians from the MUHC’s history: Dr. Jonathan Campbell Meakins and his protégé Dr. Ronald Christie. Together, they published a series papers considered seminal to respiratory medicine. The Meakins is known for training respiratory researchers from around the world. This included Dr. Margaret Becklake, a renowned respirologist and epidemiologist and founder of the Respiratory Epidemiology and Clinical Research Unit (RECRU).
