The MUHC Maintains Leadership as Quebec’s Top Research Hospital
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (The Institute) has once again proven its leadership in healthcare research. For the fifth year in a row, MUHC has been ranked among Canada’s top three research hospitals by Research Infosource Inc., placing first in Quebec. This recognition highlights the MUHC’s commitment to groundbreaking research and innovation that impacts healthcare locally and globally.
In 2024, MUHC achieved a remarkable milestone with $258.2 million in research spending—an 11.5% increase from the previous year—outpacing the combined budgets of the next two leading research hospitals in Quebec. The hospital also ranks third nationally for research intensity (research spending as a percentage of total hospital spending) and fifth for researcher intensity (research spending per researcher) among large hospitals.
The Institute’s success is driven by the dedication of over 700 researchers and 1,300 trainees who contribute to cutting-edge discoveries aimed at improving health outcomes. This recognition underscores MUHC’s role in advancing precision healthcare and addressing health challenges through interdisciplinary science and innovative solutions.
